Sophia considered taking her hand. With nebulas swirling above their heads, she considered doing more.

Excursions like these were not new. Occasionally an outing resulted in her taking someone to bed, but more often it ended with a silent agreement, a mutual understanding. Almost every relationship of hers devolved after that point.

A physical connection to complement an emotional one. Such a simple notion when one paused to think about it. But it wasn’t really, was it? So many of her prospective partners couldn’t shake their gratitude, the sense of their own inferiority, their belief that pity was the only thing pressing her forward.

If we are to share each other it must be as equals. Even if it's just for a moment.
It was a rule she tried very hard not to break.
